A few birds
The first lift over a canal I've ever seen. Fun, eh?

On the edge of the Mediterranean, vineyards begin the season's growth
The Cathedral of Maguelone was built in the 11th century, and remained a cathedral until the mid 16th century, when the bishop was moved to Montpellier. It has been rebuilt multiple times, but I think never completely destroyed. Today it remains, a protected historic site, between sea and étangs (bays? salt water lakes? translation help, please), surrounded by vineyards, forest, and sand. A small road leads to it. Based on the number of visitors at the end of April, I imagine it is pretty congested in vacation season.
And this last one. I seem to find one establishment or another like this every time I am at this beautiful sea. Miss you, brother!

Birding vicariously, I believe you have a Pied Avocet and a Little Egret there. Looking forward to following your rolling adventures.
ReplyDeleteLarry! So glad you're there, sort of here, and had been hoping for ids. That avocet especially was a handsome bird.
DeleteNice photos: is that a new Camera you're using????? Look forward to the dailies.
ReplyDeleteThanks George, and yes it is. ...and whoosh, it is complicated. I am just beginning to learn to use it, mostly while exploring Montpellier ... a great walking city, and young in French terms, established about 1100.
DeleteWe meant to go to the sea side when we had a holiday near there a couple of years ago but it was just too far away so I am very pleased to see it now.
ReplyDeleteThat might have been the holiday when we actually met in real time? Aigues-Morte is pretty close by.
DeleteIt was the holiday before when we stayed in a b&b handy for the canal but too far for the sea.
